Pre-K 2

This program is for children whose birth dates prevent them from entering kindergarten immediately after they have completed the Pre-K program. Specifically designed to continue the young learner's progress, the Pre-K 2 program builds upon skills and knowledge already attained.

Like Pre-K, our Pre-K 2 program prepares your child to meet the kindergarten expectations set forth in the Common Core State Standards, but with increased expectations of student performance, additional levels of academic rigor and enrichment opportunities to create higher levels of cognitive reasoning and understanding.

Some of the skills acquired at this level include creating and interpreting data in bar and pie charts, counting by 5s and 10s, and matching familiar spoken words to written words.

Pre-K 2 includes San Diego State University's SPARK Physical Fitness/Wellness program and a Spanish program.

The Pre-K 2 program provides a safe harbor in which young learners can continue to explore, experiment and learn in preparation for kindergarten.

Language and Literacy

Your child will continue to build connections between spoken and written words, through reading and writing and will begin to compare characters and settings in different stories.

Wellness

Your child will develop fine and gross motor skills by taking part in age-appropriate dance and athletic activities, and will continue to build upon his or her handwriting skills. In this level of SPARK, your child will participate in physical activities with integrated body movements.

Mathematics

Building on previous math concepts, your child will explore numerical relationships, continue complex patterning and graphing and learn how to compose and decompose numbers into their subsequent parts.

Music

At this age, your child will explore tempo, tone and volume of a variety of sounds. Using critical thinking skills, your child will listen to and respond to music of various cultures.

The World and Me

Your child has now reached the age where he or she is conscious of actions and is capable of apologizing with understanding. Teachers will ask your child to participate in the rule-making process and take an active role in the classroom decision-making and management.

Art

Through modeling and discussion, your child will be encouraged to move from stick figures to more detailed figures and complex pictures when responding to a shared experience. Your child will be asked to use art to express thoughts and ideas in journals.

Spanish

This is the culminating year of the Spanish program for preschool children. Instruction is more focused, with the emphasis on functional use of the language. Your child will be exposed to stories and activities that are almost entirely in Spanish.

My Community & Environment

Your child will take a close look at traditions producing simple maps of familiar places and identifying people significant to our history. As your child participates in more complex experiments he or she will learn to predict, graph and analyze data.
